My graduate work involved conducting field experiments to study the turbulence structure in the bottom boundary layer of the coastal ocean. This involved using various optical (Particle Image Velocimetry) and acoustic sensors to characterize the flow field.

As part of my post-doctoral research, I am currently carrying out a field study to characterize particle distribution and orientation in coastal waters, and studying the effect of preferential orientation (if any) on the optical properties and light propagation in the water column.

Interest in becoming a mentor: During the Ocean Sciences Meeting in Honolulu (2014), I participated in the same program, albeit as a Mentee. My experience then was neither great nor bad: Although I ended up meeting my mentor (just once), when we did, the discussion was quite general and not something which I gained a lot of insight from. However, I was grateful to the organizers for providing a platform, which I believe has great potential. This time around, as a Mentor who is attending his fourth Ocean Sciences Meeting, I hope any interactions that I have with my Mentee would prove to be beneficial to him/her. Equally, I believe I will have a lot to learn from this interaction.
