Physical Scientist

Human Use and Impacts; Marine Ecosystems; Past, Present and Future Climate

Current role in the field of ocean sciences: Federal or State Employee

Area(s) of expertise within ocean sciences: I have almost 30 years of experience in climate and earth system modeling.
I am interested in understanding the processes driving threshold and transitions in past, present, and future climates.
My current work focuses on the reversibility of marine net primary production and community composition.

Interest in becoming a mentor: I came to the US as a foreign student from the West Indies, and have had a non-traditional and circuitous path in science. I taught myself modeling and model development and was in a support position for many years. It is only recently that I have had a chance to do my own research (so in some sense early-career). While this will be my first Ocean Sciences meeting, I think my experiences as a non-white, female, without a PhD could be invaluable in mentoring someone in a similar position.
