Current role in the field of ocean sciences: Faculty

Area(s) of expertise within ocean sciences: Phytoplankton ecology, particularly of coastal areas where the ocean is influenced by inputs of water from the land. I use tools including real time continuous monitoring buoys, scanning electron microscopy, and flow cytometry in my research. Most of my research involves field sampling (in situ) although I have a lot of experience working with phytoplankton cultures as well.

Interest in becoming a mentor: I saw colleagues at the last Ocean Sciences meeting and it looked interesting (to be a mentor). My current position involved a lot of student mentoring, so I have developed a good comfort level with being a mentor. Finally, I can recognize how important my mentors were to me as I was developing my career, and I am anxious to give back.
