Biogeochemistry and Nutrients; Chemical Tracers, DOM and Trace Metals

Current role in the field of ocean sciences: Post-doc

Area(s) of expertise within ocean sciences: I’m a marine geochemist working on neodymium, hafnium and iron isotopes in particles and seawater.
I have been involved in the GEOTRACES (www.geotraces.org) programme since 2008, collecting samples for my PhD in the Southern Ocean on one of the first GEOTRACES/IPY cruises in the Atlantic. I have achieved my PhD at GEOMAR in Kiel, Germany in 2011. After that I have worked as a postdoc at the University of Hawaii at Manoa (USA), Imperial College London and University of Southampton (both UK). So I have research experience in Germany, USA and the UK. For the last 2 years I’ve been getting more and more involved in teaching/marking undergraduates.

Interest in becoming a mentor: As a PhD student, I found it always very helpful to exchange with researchers in their early career stages. Their direct and fresh experience in entering an advanced stage of their young careers has provided me with essential information on what to be prepared for for the following years. Thinking back to that stage, I would like to think that my experiences from early career stage are of helpful for students too.
